For The Pursuit
Dr. David Waltman, PT, DPT
I live in Newport Beach, CA with my beautiful wife - Hilary, and our wild Australian labradoodle - Wiley. We are expecting our first baby in July 2021 and couldn’t be more thrilled!! I am a travel addict, a foodie, a craft beer connoisseur, and of course, a movement/exercise enthusiast. My pursuit of health and wellness to live a long/happy life includes movement practice (yoga), strength training, mindfulness (meditation), and a well-balanced/healthy diet. It’s all about balance in life!
My athletic background includes primarily basketball and track & field. My high school basketball team made it to the state playoffs, and I was a 2x MVP of the league. I won the league title in multiple events in high school track, including the 100m, 200m, 4x100m, 4x400m, and high jump. After high school, I walked on to the UCSB track team my freshman year.
Multiple injuries as a high school and track athlete, as well as a frustrating rehabilitation experience, sparked my interest in the recovery process and motivated me to provide better care than what I received. Since then, I have had a passion for helping others return to their activity/sport in a fun, effective, and efficient manner.
I earned my Doctor of Physical Therapy degree from Sacramento State University in 2016, with a special interest in orthopedic rehabilitation and sports medicine. I strive for clear communication with my patients to ensure they understand the current issue(s) contributing to their pain and/or dysfunction, and the best plan to get them where they want to be. The patient is always in the driver seat for their recovery process -- after all, it’s their body, their goals, and their life!
My treatment philosophy includes using a movement assessment (to identify any painful or dysfunctional movement patterns), manual therapy interventions (to decrease pain and improve joint and soft tissue function), neuromuscular re-education (to activate/“wake up” certain muscles and to retrain/“rewire” efficient and effective movement patterns), and strength & conditioning (to optimize tissue capacity for the demands of real life).
I currently provide mobile/concierge physical therapy services in the comfort of your own home, gym, yard, office, or park! This allows for 1-on-1 treatment during the entire session (compared to 10-20 minutes with your PT in a clinical setting, and then passed off to support staff), which means faster recovery, less time, and less money to reach your goals!
I intend to leave the world a better place when it is all said and done, and believe my best opportunity to do so is through helping others achieve their physical goals in their pursuit of happiness. Giving people hope and a clear path to recovery after an injury or surgery is my primary goal as a clinician.
